BLUEBELLS CAKERY – Karla Goodwin
Position: Founder / Owner / Managing Director
Why did you move to The Fringe District?
We deliver all around Auckland, including to our two other stores in the City and Hillsborough. We needed a site in between those two where we could get access to the motorways easily.
What has been your greatest challenge?
Lockdown was definitely our biggest challenge last year; however, we were able to adapt very quickly.
What has been your greatest achievement?
Founding and building a successful business that employs 50 staff who work tirelessly to bring joy and happiness to hundreds of people each day.
What keeps you motivated to do what you do?
The feedback we get from our customers when we have done a good job – the satisfaction of knowing that we have helped in some way to be part of our customers’ special occasions.
Who inspires you?
My parents and their entrepreneurial ability.
What are your strengths?
Vision to make the right decisions – business acumen, commitment to customer service, an eye for detail, the ability to build a business through consistent product and branding aesthetic, creativity, and juggling a busy business with two young children.
What are our neighbourhood’s strengths?
A sense of community – a shared vision of what Kingsland could look like in 10 years. Fantastic selection of cafes, restaurants, gyms, beauticians, and retail. Everything you could ever want!
What makes your business unique? (Tell us about your business)
We specialise in cakes, cupcakes, wedding cakes, and catering. We have three sit-in cafes with an array of cabinet food and offer High Tea. I guess what makes us unique is that we blend a successful cake business with a multi-site café division.
What role does your business play within our community?
Bringing happiness to the local community through caffeine and sugar!
